Grunge

Grunge music is also known as Seattle sound and appeared in the mid 1980's. The music genre is inspired from hardcore punk, heavy metal and indie rock and is mostly a wild mix of guitar sounds. Grunge music was never like because the people who liked it where the ones that were not liked by the government because of their criminal record or the appearance they had. The first time that grunge music appeared in the public was due to Nirvana and Pearl Jam's Ten. These two bands was the reason why grunge music became famous throughout America. The style of the musicians and fans was torn out clothes and the "dirty" look, meaning most guys where unshaved and not washed. They didn't care how other people thought of them and they did what they wanted, that was their theme. Grunge music is not as famous anymore because other music has entered the world, people now prefer the more modern and clean versions of lyrics and styles of music.

No Logo Chapter 2

In the second chapter the author of No Logo writes about how children are used as billboards because their parents buy them shirts with the logo printed on it. This concludes a positive reaction for companies but it makes our environment sink because our needs are all about the product and not actually the shirt or pants. Also a long time ago the shops decorated their windows with Christmas related object but now it is just a Christmas tree decorated with the logo everywhere. Companies try everything to make their logo stand out, so that they get rid of the other competition.
Furthermore Companies decided to use celebrities to identify their brand. For example Nike has a deal with Michael Jordan so that he wears clothes from Nike and not for example from Adidas. When celebrities wear branded clothes the public thinks it is a great idea and so wants to be just like them, it is the idea of "coolness". Companies and athletes, celebs and stars have a long term relationship so that they earn money but the companies get profit because more people buy more of the product since famous people wear it. This is called product placement which is when products are placed into movies or TV shows. For example a cereal box in Grey's Anatomy, this is from Kellogg’s. Hence this makes the product more famous and people buy it more. In conclusion anything that is famous will sell well to the people.

Lifestyle vs. Product ads

In this commercial it shows how Coke brings happiness to all families. It is set during Christmas so everywhere the Coke-truck goes, lights start shinning and the families are happy when they see the truck. At the end of the commercial there is writing which says that the Coke-truck might come to your town and that you can call a specific number. Also Santa Claus winks while drinking a coke bottle. Furthermore during the whole commercial there is no talking but just music and lots of colors which represents that the lifestyle of coke is being sold. This is lifestyle because Santa Claus is something that children believe in and it brings happiness in the Winter.

Chapter 1 Summary No Logo

In the first chapter the author of "No Logo", Naomi Klein, talks about how the world is changing to a brand orientated society. In former times it was all about selling the product, so people made advertisement where the focus was on the object, for example a car. Now a day it is all about the brand, so now you commercial a brand and not the object anymore. Since all cars are pretty much the same now it is the brand that counts and the logo on it. The market has to produce products all the time otherwise the consumer gets bored, so they also have to advertise the product so that it is recognized and bought. The best way in doing this is to have a logo and brand name that stands out. Also Naomi Klein talks about the Baby Boom which happened after the wars in America. Since all of the husbands where gone due to the war the women where alone at home but when the men came back many of them got married or got children. Another thing which is talked about is the Marlboro Man which is the longest lasting advertising symbol; it has been shown since 1994 but unfortunately the Marlboro Man due to lung cancer which is ironic.
